Vegetarian & Vegan Restaurants

Other Side Cafe

The Other Side CafeSome meat may be on the menu, but it’s certainly not the focus. The Other Side Cafe boasts a menu brimming with vegetarian and vegan-friendly options, with everything from a raw food appetizer (see Raw Foodist’s Chips & Dip) to a vegan ‘meat’ omelet. Not to mention, many vegetarian entrees can easily be made vegan—cheese or faux-cheese, it’s delicious either way! The atmosphere is distinct, unlike many of the more upscale eateries on Newbury Street. Rather, the Other Side Cafe has a more bohemian vibe, often getting labeled as a “hipster hotspot.” Regardless of whether or not you own a hoodie, flannel, or garb from some obscure thrift store, the veg-friendly menu definitely merits more than a single visit. Not to mention, they have a more than satisfactory choice of alcoholic beverages and desserts!

Grasshopper

Located in Allston, Grasshopper is one of Boston’s all-vegetarian restaurants. Featuring Asian cuisine, the menu offers up a variety of vegetarian and vegan options. The menu is divided quite like any other restaurant, with appetizers, soups, noodles, and specials. Also, they have sections divided by meat substitute: Seitain dishes and Tofu dishes. Beyond dinner, they’re rumored to make a supremely tasty vegan cheesecake! Finally, Grasshopper is home to various events, such as dinner nights put together by the Boston Vegetarian Society.

Grezzo

Grezzo is an upscale vegan restaurant located in Boston’s historic North End. But it’s not just vegan cuisine, the restaurant also specializes in raw and living food. Dedicated to sustainability and environmental issues, entrees are made with all organic ingredients whenever possible. Speaking of the menu, there’s an assortment of delicious and creative dishes. For lunch, try the Gnocchi Carbonara, made with Grezzo’s creamy “rawmesan” cheese alongside crispy eggplant. For dinner, there’s a whole different menu—Mushroom Tea soup, Papaya Steak, “Apple pave a’ la mode” for dessert, and much more! Beyond the menu, Grezzo offers up some really great events and opportunities, such as the intensive 12 hour chef training by executive chef Leah Dubois.

Peace o’ Pie Vegan Pizza

Peace o’ Pie, which just opened in September 2009, is a vegan pizzeria located in Allston. It’s pretty compliant with all you’d ask for in a vegan restaurant: it’s vegan-owned and operated, sources strictly vegan ingredients, offers alternative crusts (like whole wheat and gluten free), recycles, composts, and supports other eco-friendly practices. But beyond that, the menu boasts a mouth-watering selection of pies! That’s in addition to daily specials like this recent “Slice o’ the Day” with organic spinach, artichoke hearts, and garlic. And if you’re not feeling up for a night out, not to worry. They also deliver.
